BSMI Authentication process
The Bureau of Standards and Inspection (BSMI), under the leadership of the economic Department of the Government, formulates product inspection specifications for electronic and electrical products entering the Taiwan market. Products must meet safety, EMC and related tests before they are authorized to use the BSMI mark.
BSMI certification is mandatory, and it has requirements for both EMC and SAFETY.
BSMI does not currently have factory inspections, but must follow the regulations of the Bureau of Standards.
Taiwan voltage: single-phase 110V/220, three-phase 220V, frequency 60Hz.
BSMI Application: There are currently three ways to apply.
There are two types of type approval:
1, Type approval (EMC+Safety), from January 1, 2004, 178 types of electronic and electrical products need to apply for such approval. Applicable standards: EMC+Safety, the documents to be provided are (application for product type approval, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagrams and user manuals, and technical documents for safety regulations). Certificate validity: three years, can be renewed once.
2, EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application), mandatory from November 1, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only have EMI requirements, 124 electronic and electrical products only need EMI+ safety report (if the product has safety requirements). Applicable criteria: EMI only. The documents to be provided are (application for EMC type approval, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, parts with EMC, block diagrams and user manuals).
Two, certification registration
Date of enforcement: not yet announced, applicable standard: EMI+ safety regulations. The documents to be provided are (application for product type approval, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagrams and user manuals, technical documents for safety regulations, declaration of conformity). Certificate validity: three years, can be renewed once.
Declaration of conformity
Date of enforcement: 18 January 2002. Applicable products: 19 kinds of components of information technology equipment. Applicable standard: CNS13438 (ONLY EMC). The documents to be provided are (declaration of conformity, test reports, technical documents: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagrams and user manuals). No certificate.
For electronic and electrical products, the Bureau of Standards provides three application methods as follows:
1, the declaration of conformity applies only to parts of some information technology equipment (please refer to the product description on the website of the Bureau of Standards and Inspection).
2, at the discretion of the product cost manufacturer to apply for certification registration or type approval.
3, the difference between certification registration and type approval is:
Inspection method: If the product has received type approval, the inspection of the customer will be simplified. For products applying for certification registration, customers are not inspected, and random market testing is adopted.
Second, the cost difference: the application fee for certification registration is higher than that for formal approval, and an annual fee is charged, while the type approval does not charge an annual fee.
