NF Certification Scope
NF certification is the code name of the French standard, which was introduced in 1938, and its governing body is the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR).
France prepares a revision plan for the standard system every three years and adjusts it once a year.
The French Institute for Standardization directs the technical work of the 17 large Standardization Planning Groups (GPNS), which coordinates the work of the Planning Committee (COP). Each planning group is guided by a Strategic Approach Committee (COS), which brings together decision-makers from the relevant economic sectors and is responsible for prioritizing work, participating in the search for funding, and allocating funds for planned projects. The 17 large standardization planning groups are:
• Agri-food • Building & Public Works
• Machinery Manufacturing • Water cycle
• Electrical and Electronic Technology • Environment
• Gas; Petroleum Industry
• Management and Service • Materials and their primary processing
• Basic standard • Health
• Metallurgy and Primary processing of steel • Information and Communication Technology
• Residence A Sports/Recreation • Health and Safety at Work
• Traffic
In 1942, the French Secretary of State for Economy and Finance, the Secretary of State for Agriculture and the Secretary of State for Industrial Production jointly issued the Constitution of the National Symbol, which further improved the NF symbol system.
