Gas product

Detection service / Gas appliances CE certification Stove CE certification Fireplace CE certification Water heater CE certification

Before a product is put on the EU market for sale or put into use, the CE mark on the product often involves the requirements of multiple EU directives, and gas appliances are no exception. For example, gas barbecues and gas cookers must meet the requirements of the Gas Appliance Directive (GAD); electronically controlled gas ovens using AC power must meet the requirements of the Gas Appliance Directive (GAD), the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC); electronically controlled gas water heaters and electronically controlled gas boilers using AC power must meet the Gas Appliance Directive (GAD), the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) and the Boiler Energy Efficiency Directive (BED). Therefore, the CE certification agency reminds everyone that the CE certification of a gas appliance product should examine the following three issues:
  1. Which EU directives are applicable to the product?
  2. What are the product assessment modules and product assessment procedures consisting of assessment modules stipulated in these EU directives?
  3. Which EU harmonized standards must a product comply with before it can be considered to have met the requirements of these EU directives?
Gas Appliance Directive - So far, there are 61 gas appliance product standards that specifically reflect the basic requirements of the directive, please see the table below.
EN 26 Gas-fired instantaneous water heaters for sanitary use production, fitted with atmospheric burners
EN 30 Domestic cooking appliances burning gas fuel
EN 88 Pressure governors for gas appliances for inlet pressures up to 200 mbar
EN 89 Gas-fired storage water heaters for the production of domestic hot water
EN 125 Flame supervision devices for gas burning appliances — Thermo-electric flame supervision devices
EN 126 Multifunctional controls for gas burning appliances
EN 161 Automatic shut-off valves for gas burners and gas appliances
EN 203 Gas heated catering equipment
EN 257 Mechanical thermostats for gas-burning appliances
EN 297 Gas-fired central heating boilers — Type B11 and B11BS boilers fitted with atmospheric burners of nominal heat input not exceeding 70 kW
EN 298 Automatic gas burner control systems for gas burners and gas burning appliances with or without fans
  EN 303 Heating boilers
EN 377 Lubricants for applications in appliances and associated controls using combustible gases except those designed for use in industrial processes
EN 416 Single burner gas-fired overhead radiant-tube heaters
EN 419 Non-domestic gas-fired overhead luminous radiant heaters
EN 437 Test gases — Test pressures — Appliance categories
EN 449 Specification for dedicated liquefied petroleum gas appliances — Domestic flueless space heaters (including diffusive catalytic combustion heaters)
EN 461 Specification for dedicated liquefied petroleum gas appliances — Flueless nondomestic space heaters not exceeding 10 kW
EN 483 Gas-fired central heating boilers — Type C boilers of nominal heat input not exceeding 70 kW
Gas Appliances Directive GAD (2009/142/EC (ex-90/396/EEC) Appliances burning gaseous fuels) - appliances that use gaseous fuel as the main energy source for cooking, heating, hot water, cooling, lighting or washing, and safety control components or assemblies used in these appliances.

Boiler Energy Efficiency Directive (BED 92/42/EEC Hot-water boilers) - General gas water heaters and hot gas wall-mounted boilers are subject to the Boiler Energy Efficiency Directive.
Low Voltage Directive (LVD), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) - Ordinary electrical products with a rated input voltage of 50 to 1000Vac or 75 to 1500Vdc should be subject to the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive. The applicable standards are the same as those for household electrical appliances, such as: EN 60335-1, EN 55014-1, EN 55014-2, EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, etc.

Common standards for CE certification of gas stoves
        Gas type: EN 437
Household gas cookers and ovens: EN 30
Outdoor barbecue grills: EN 498, EN 484
  Outdoor appliances: EN 497
  Heaters: EN 449, EN 461, EN 1596, EN 14543, EN 509, EN 613, EN 1266, EN 14829, EN 13278

The EU Gas Appliances Directive has been enforced since January 1, 1996. This directive applies to all household and commercial cookers, heaters, water heaters, dryers, lighting, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment that use gas, as well as the safety components used in the above appliances.

Xingyuan can provide certification consulting services and common products that need to comply with the gas appliance directive include:
· oven
Gas cooker
Gas water heater
Patio heater
Gas grill
· Wall-mounted boiler for heating and hot water
· Hotel Chinese and Western kitchen equipment using gas
Direct-fired engine
Gas air conditioning heat pump
Gas pressure regulating valve
Flame-out protection device
· Burner
Multifunctional combustion controller, etc.
The biggest difference between the Gas Appliance Directive and other common CE directives (such as LVD, EMC, etc.) is that the entire certification process must be conducted under the leadership of a notified body, and manufacturers are not allowed to adopt a CE certification model of self-testing and self-declaration; and the CE mark affixed to the certified products is also different, and the code of the EU notified body responsible for factory production quality review must be added after CE.
The products involved include: stoves, barbecue grills, room heaters, fireplaces, outdoor camping equipment, water heaters, boilers, commercial heaters, commercial cooking and beverage equipment, electronic controls and systems, gas valves, meters, hoses, pipes, connectors, terminals and other components.
