Low Voltage Electrical Directive (LVD) 2014/35 / EC

Now the EU requires the latest LVD directive 2014/35 / EC. The Low Voltage Directive (73/23 / EEC) was established in 1973 as the first 20 years prior to the New Approach Directive and is considered the predecessor of the new program concept.

The goal of LVD is to ensure the safety of low-voltage equipment when it is in use. Low-voltage devices are defined as electrical devices rated between 50 and 1000 volts at rated voltage and between 75 and 1500 volts at direct current. Broadly speaking, low-voltage devices include consumer products and devices designed to operate within this voltage range. Including household appliances, hand tools, lighting equipment, wires, cables and pipelines, and wiring equipment. This directive contains all safety rules for this equipment, including protection against danger due to mechanical reasons.

LVD specifies that EU member states must take appropriate measures to ensure that electrical equipment sold in the domestic market does not endanger the safety of the population nor endanger domestic animals or property. So you have to:

Equipment must be designed in a good manner in accordance with safety codes

Equipment must be properly installed and maintained

Equipment must be used for design purposes

If the equipment complies with the specific safety rules approved by all Member States, these terms apply. Without prejudice to any other form of proof, the conformity may be demonstrated by reference to the criteria for establishing a good design. LVD established earlier than the CE certification mark set up time. The CE mark is the new program directive drafted by the European Union in recent years. Directive 93/68 / EEC modified the LVD to meet the needs of today.

According to Directive 93/68 / EEC, the manufacturer or an authorized representative within the European Union may prepare a Declaration of Conformity by attaching the CE mark on the product to indicate compliance with LVD and related regulations.

By the time the product is released, the manufacturer must keep the technical documentation for 10 years for inspection by the relevant unit.

Declaration of conformity

The general content of the Declaration of Compliance can be found in Appendix 3 (B) of the Order. In detail, this declaration must include:

The name and address of the manufacturer or authorized representative in the European Union

Electrical equipment instructions

Collaborative Standards Reference

Where necessary, the manufacturer's or his authorized representative within the European Union must be included with a detailed reference document

Identification of the signatory authorized to entrust

Product (for the first time) The last two digits of the CE mark year are obtained

Declarations of conformity must be in at least one of the official languages of the European Union.

The content of technical documents

Technical documents must contain detailed information on the design, manufacture and operation of electrical equipment to assess whether the electrical equipment complies with the directives.

Therefore, the file must contain:

General description of the product

Design and manufacturing drawings, and illustrations of components, sub-assemblies, wiring, and the like.

Explain the aforementioned drawings and illustrations, as well as documentation of the operation of this electrical equipment

The list of standards used, in whole or in part, and the solutions that meet the safety requirements in the parts of the standard not yet specified.

Design calculations and the results of such inspections

Test report (test report by manufacturer or third unit)

The custody of technical documents of the unit and location?

The manufacturer or his authorized representative in the EU, from the date of the final manufacture of this product, must keep this document for at least 10 years for inspection by the relevant government agencies at any time. Technical documents may also be stored electronically, provided that they must be readily verifiable. If the manufacturer does not have a stronghold in the European Union and no authorized representative, the responsibility belongs to the importer or the person in charge of marketing in the EU market.
